For over 130 years, the QWERTY keyboard has ruled! From the first rickety mechanical type-writers to electronic word processors of the 80s to today’s sophisticated computers, the first Sholes and Glidden keyboard (made by E. Remington and Sons and patented by C.L. Sholes) remains the standard for users worldwide.
Many other keyboards have come and gone, most notably the Dvorak keyboard in the 1930s which expected to be the prime competition for use on typewriter keyboards.
Though tweaked by other countries for specific symbols and adapted for special needs/handicapped, QWERTY remains the standard.
But the fact remains: it doesn’t really matter what keyboard is used…good typists will type fast, bad typists will not!

Hel-lo, Web 2.0! Can you handle Maplewood? Because we’re “pouncing” on any and every event or class project we can think of or are made aware of!
Student podcasters are terrific at interviewing staff and other students, and staff have been so cooperative in giving a few minutes time to answer some questions about their event or activity. Some staff, who have great “radio” voices, have contributed their vocal talents to our episodes and we’re grateful for this audio expertise.
- We hope you enjoy our broad(pod)cast about just what’s really happening at Maplewood.
- The Wood Shed may reside in the middle of nowhere, but we’re tech savvy and proud of it! Watch out–this cat is crouching and ready to pounce!

Eeeeee-yaaaaaaa!!!! Go, Tigers!
Maplewood students learn the modern Korean martial art characterized by spinning and high kicks! Listen in to Mr. Williams’ description of this style of defense and students’ reactions to their first lesson.
..
The Tenets of Taekwondo
Courtesy (Ye Ui). To be thoughtful and considerate of others. Taekwondo practisers (both students and instructors) should be polite, and show consideration for others.
Integrity (Yom Chi). Integrity describes how you should interact with others. To be honest and good, earn respect and trust.
Perseverance (In Nae). This basically stands for your internal drive. Challenges allow us to improve ourselves and should therefor not be avoided.
Self control (Guk Ki). To have control of your body and mind. A Taekwondo student should practice controlling his actions and reactions.
Indomitable spirit (Baekjool Boolgool). To have courage in the face of adversity. A Taekwondo student should never be dominated by, or have his spirit broken by another.
